Global Safe Environments for Sustainable Enterprises (globalSENSE) aims to be a resource for development professionals and organizations that interact or work with children, youth, women and men.
GlobalSENSE takes a special
focus on micro and small enterprises and the informal economy, where most people spend the majority of their waking hours working. Whether they recycle lead from car batteries or other metals from electronic waste in their homes, labor on construction sites, work in small factories, sell items on busy streets and so on, the risks to them and their families of injuries and diseases from occupational hazards are frequently high and overlooked.
Today, international development projects are increasingly recognizing the inter-relatedness of occupational safety and health with broader social, economic, environmental, and health problems.
